manner and shall in like manner invest or and 51.
deal with any bequest subscription or endow-
ment as hereinbefore mentioned : Provided
always that no such lands or tenements shall
be alienated by way of sale or mortgage nor
by lease for any longer term than twenty-one
years except under the authority of an Act
of the Superintendent and Provincial Council
of the said Province to be passed in that
behalf nor excepting by deed signed by at
least five members of the Board and
sealed with the seal of The Board.

When Act comes into operation.

46. For the purposes of rating this Act
    shall come into operation from the first day
    of January 1869. And all rates levied there-
    by shall be deemed to be due and payable on
    the day aforesaid.

Short Title.

47. The Short Title of this Act shall be
    "The Common Schools Act 1869."
