PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.
Superintendent’s Office,
Auckland, 17th October, 1868.
In compliance with a Requisition presented to me this day, a copy of which is published for general information, I hereby notify that the Offices of the Provincial Government will be closed at two o’clock in the afternoon of Tuesday next, the 20th instant; and I invite the Merchants, Bankers, Tradespeople, and others of Auckland to close their places of business at the same hour on that day, in order to afford the Inhabitants an opportunity of bidding farewell to the Right Reverend George Augustus Selwyn, D.D., Bishop of New Zealand and Lichfield, upon His Lordship’s departure from this Colony.

SIR,—In order to afford the people of Auckland an opportunity of testifying for the last time their respect for the Bishop of New Zealand and Lichfield, by bidding him “Farewell” on his departure by the s.s. “Hero” for England on Tuesday next, the 20th instant, we have the honor to request that Your Honor will cause to be issued a Proclamation closing the Government Offices at 2 o’clock p.m. on that day, and inviting Bankers, Merchants, and others to close their places of business at the same time.
