Maritime Notices and Mining Company Registrations

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

PORT ADELAIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

NOTICE is hereby given, that the light at present exhibited from the light-ship, off the entrance of Port Adelaide Creek, St. Vincent’s Gulf, will be discontinued on or about the 31st December next, and a fixed bright light on a tower fifty feet above high water level will be exhibited on the south side of the outer bar of the Creek in lieu thereof.

The new bright light will be on the catadioptric principle of the fourth order, and will be visible from seaward at a distance of about fourteen miles in clear weather.

During the prevalence of warm weather, when much refraction often exists, the light will occasionally be seen at a greater distance than above stated.

Further notice will be given, when the precise date of the exhibition of the light can be stated, also directions for approaching the anchorage.

B. DOUGLAS,
President of the Marine Board,
South Australia.

Directions for Entering Port Adelaide.

Continue this course until the additional Black Beacon and the two White Beacons are nearly in line, bearing about S.W. ¼ W., and cross the Bar with these marks on. Immediately the Bar is crossed, haul to the southward until the points at the entrance again open out, when a Vessel will be in deep water, and a course may be steered to pass the Red Buoy on the starboard hand, as usual.

The Black Beacon in line with the Red Buoy points out the position of the South Channel over the Bar, in which, however, the water does not exceed two fathoms at low-water.

G. P. HEATH, Lieut. R.N.,
Portmaster.
