Sir,

I HAVE the honor to enclose herewith a copy of a Resolution, passed at a meeting of the Royal Reception (Executive) Committee held yesterday, with reference to a day being set apart, for affording the people of this Province an opportunity of expressing their gratitude for the safe recovery of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, to which I beg to refer, and to express the hope that Your Honor will comply with the request therein made.

Resolved, "That this Committee, having heard the statement made by His Honor the Superintendent, and also having heard the letter from His Excellency the Governor read, deeply regret the circumstances which have led to the unavoidable abandonment of the arrangements contemplated for giving expression to their feelings towards the Crown and Prince, and suggest that a day be set apart for affording the people of this Province an opportunity of expressing their gratitude and joy for the safe recovery of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh from the effects of the attack made upon him, and that the 29th of this month be suggested to His Honor for that purpose."

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

Day for Public Rejoicing on account of the Safe Recovery of H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh.

Superintendent’s Office,
Auckland, 16th April, 1868.

IN accordance with the suggestion made in the above Resolution, I notify for general information that the Offices of the Provincial Government will be closed on Wednesday the 29th April, instant; and I hereby invite the Inhabitants of the Province of Auckland to observe that day as a day of Public Rejoicing and Thanksgiving for the safe recovery of His Royal Highness Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh.
