ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION OF HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCE ALFRED.
City Board of Commissioners' Office,
Auckland, 30th March, 1868.
Sir,—I have the honor to inform you that at a meeting of the Board, held to-day, the following resolution was adopted, to which I beg to refer, viz. :
“That this Board, viewing with the greatest indignation the recent murderous attempt on the life of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, respectfully request His Honor the Superintendent to convene a Public Meeting, for the purpose of affording the inhabitants of this Province an opportunity of expressing, in an Address, their deep sympathy with His Royal Highness.”

TO HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT OF THE PROVINCE OF AUCKLAND.
We, the undersigned inhabitants of this Province, respectfully request that you would be pleased to convene a Public Meeting, for the purpose of enabling us to express our indignation at the horrible outrage perpetrated on His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, and to take such other steps as may appear fitting to shew our loyalty and attachment to Her Most Gracious Majesty.
