PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.
Superintendent’s Office,
Auckland, 13th March, 1868.
THE Superintendent has this morning received, per s.s. ‘Taranaki,’ a communication from His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, G.C.M.G., relative to His Excellency’s intended visit to Auckland, and the date at which His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh may be expected to arrive in this Colony. The following extract from His Excellency’s letter is published for general information.
J. Williamson,
Superintendent.
EXTRACT OF A LETTER FROM HIS EXCELLENCY SIR GEORGE F. BOWEN, G.C.M.G., TO THE SUPERINTENDENT.
"Wellington,
March 9, 1868.
I take the earliest opportunity to acquaint you that I have received official intelligence from the Duke of Edinburgh that His Royal Highness cannot leave Sydney for Auckland till April 3rd. The cause of this unavoidable delay is, that the docking and repairs of the ‘Galatea’ will take three weeks longer than was at first expected. But His Royal Highness has expressly informed me that he will not allow the delay in his arrival at Auckland, which he will not now reach before the 8th or 9th April, to curtail his visit to New Zealand. He will certainly remain in this Colony till the middle of May, perhaps longer.
Under these circumstances, I have delayed my departure for Auckland till about the 17th instant."
G. F. Bowen,
His Honor
The Superintendent
Of Auckland.
