Auckland, May 20, 1867.

THE following communication from His Excellency’s Private Secretary is published for general information.

"Private Secretary’s Office,
Auckland, May 20, 1867.

Sir,—His Excellency the Governor has requested me to express to your Honour his very great gratification at the reception which has this day been given to him by the provincial authorities and the inhabitants of the province of Auckland.

His Excellency is anxious to convey, through you, to the authorities and the several public bodies who were present, his thanks for the trouble they took to give him so effective and cordial a welcome on his return to this city; for he not only feels grateful for the goodwill evinced towards himself on this occasion, but is highly gratified at the admirable arrangements which were made; which he desires me to say reflect the greatest credit upon all concerned.

I have the honour to be, sir,
Your Honour’s most obedient servant,

Fred. Thatcher,
Private Secretary.

"His Honour the Superintendent."
