The amount of sickness among the prisoners during the past year has been somewhat less than the preceding, the total cases treated being 209, of which 19 were females and 30 were Maories. The number of deaths however has been greater than during any previous year, the amount being 6, of whom 4 were Maories.
1st. John Nicklin, aged 60 years, admitted September 26th, 1864, for Chronic Rheumatism. He was a feeble emaciated subject. The disease settled in the elbow-joint, which became carious. He died on January 3rd, 1867.
2nd. Jane Feeny, aged 25 years, admitted January 5th, for a contusion of the breast, caused by a blow from a fellow prisoner, with whom she had been quarrelling. She was far advanced in pregnancy at the time of the injury. Labour ensued, and unhealthy suppuration of the breast supervened. The inflammation ran on to gangrene, and the patient died with marked symptoms of Pyemia. Distressing pains in the limbs resembling rheumatism were observed.
3rd. Tamati Ngatihoki, aged 25 years, admitted May 17th for confirmed tubercular consumption, and died August 1st.
4th. Natus, aged 50 years, admitted for Pulmonary consumption, August 21st, and died September 14th.
