ANNUAL RETURN OF DISEASES &c., TREATED IN THE PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL, AUCKLAND, 1865.

Fevers 3 68 71 52 19 5 During the year 695 patients was treated in the Provincial Hospital of whom 88 were females. Out of the whole number only 5 were maories. Patients are admitted into Hospital by application personally, or by their friends, at the Superintendent’s Office in Princes’ Street. Accidents and cases of emergency are admissible without application at the office, maories also may be admitted on presenting themselves at the Hospital. In all cases when there are funds, a charge of 1s. 6d. per diem is made. The friends of patients are permitted to visit them on Tuesday and Fridays between the hours of 1 and 4 p.m. The Hospital staff, consists of:— The Provincial Surgeon, non-resident; the house surgeon, resident; four male nurses, do.; matron, d.; cook, do. The wards are visited at 9 o’clock a.m. daily and at 5 p.m. The number of beds is 78

THE HOSPITAL DIETS ARE DIVIDED INTO FOUR CLASSES, VIZ.:—

In addition to the above, extras are allowed in special cases, such as Sago-Pudding, Fowl, Eggs, Oatmeal, Beef-tea, Wine, Spirits, and Porter, when necessary.

For the various articles of diet, a daily requisition is sent to the contractor, and none but the best articles are received.
