ORDER IN COUNCIL.

Bringing the “Crown Lands Act, 1862,” into operation.

At the Government House, at Auckland,
the 28th day of February, 1863.

Present:
His Excellency THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled “The Crown Lands Act, 1862,” it is enacted that the said Act shall come into operation in each Province of New Zealand on and from a day to be fixed by the Governor in Council, to be notified in the Government Gazette of the Colony, and also of the Province to which such notification shall apply:

Now therefore His Excellency the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of New Zealand, doth hereby order that the “Crown Lands Act, 1862,” shall come into operation within each of the aftermentioned Provinces of New Zealand, namely, the Provinces of Auckland, Wellington, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, on and from the sixth day of April next.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

Superintendent of the Province of Auckland.

UNDER and in pursuance of the powers vested in the Superintendent in that behalf, I hereby notify for public information, that all those pieces or parcels of land enumerated in the Schedule hereunto written, will be offered for sale at the Waste Lands Office, at Auckland, on the twenty-seventh day of April, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, as General Country Lands.

Given under my hand at Auckland, in the said Province, this twenty-seventh day of March, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-three.

VUW Te Waharoa — Auckland Provincial Gazette 1863, No 8

After Parliament moved to Wellington in 1865, the Auckland Provincial Council sat in General Assembly House (depicted).

It was nicknamed the 'Shedifice' as it was large and drafty, with a leaking roof. First premier Henry Sewell described it as 'a great wooden barnshaped affair, which might serve for a Hospital, a Jail, or a Barrack'.
