Auckland, 19th October, 1863.

I HEREBY NOTIFY that the Chairman of the Annual Meeting of the Electors of the “Mangarei District” has, in accordance with the provisions of the “Highways’ Act, 1862,” presented to me, in writing, the names of the undermentioned gentlemen elected Highway Trustees for that District —

Charles Shipherd,
John Wallace,
William Westney.

TENDERS FOR SUPPLY OF TOTARA PILES & SAWN TOTARA TIMBER.

Superintendent’s Office,
Auckland, 19th October, 1863.

TENDERS will be received at this Office until noon of Friday, the 20th November next, for the supply of Totara Piles and Sawn Totara Timber, according to the specifications attached hereto.

The Tenders must be signed by two responsible sureties, as well as by the proposed contractor, each of whom will, upon the acceptance of the Tender, be required to enter into a bond for the performance of the contract, the contractor to the amount of £300, and each of the sureties to the amount of £200.

The Tenders may either be delivered at this Office, or transmitted by post, but must in either case be endorsed respectively “Tender for Totara Piles,” and “Tender for Sawn Totara Timber,” and be addressed to the Superintendent of the Province of Auckland.

On delivery of any portion of the Piles or Timber contracted for, payment will be made of 75 per cent. of the price thereof, and the balance on completion of the contract.

After Parliament moved to Wellington in 1865, the Auckland Provincial Council sat in General Assembly House (depicted).

It was nicknamed the 'Shedifice' as it was large and drafty, with a leaking roof. First premier Henry Sewell described it as 'a great wooden barnshaped affair, which might serve for a Hospital, a Jail, or a Barrack'.
