eight hundred and sixty-two.

J. WILLIAMSON,
Superintendent.

PROCLAMATION.

By JOHN WILLIAMSON, Esquire,
Superintendent of the Province
of Auckland, in the Colony of
New Zealand.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance passed in
the eighth year of the reign of Her
Majesty Queen Victoria, by the Governor of
New Zealand, with the advice and consent of
the then Legislative Council thereof, intituled
"An Ordinance to empower owners and occu-
pers of land within certain Districts to repair
and maintain Highways and Public Works
within the same, and to make and levy rates
for defraying the expenses thereof;" it was
enacted that if the major part of the persons
qualified to become electors, in the manner in
the said Ordinance mentioned within any
District, should apply in writing to His Ex-
cellency the Governor, distinctly setting forth
the boundaries of such District, and requesting
the same to be declared to be a District
within the provisions of the said Ordinance,
His Excellency might by Proclamation declare
the same to be such District, and by such
Proclamation should prescribe a period within
which all claims to the right of voting at the
election of the first and every succeeding Board
of Commissioners for such district should be
made. And whereas by an Act passed by the
Superintendent of the Province of Auckland,
with the advice and consent of the Provincial
Council thereof, intituled "An Act to transfer
certain powers and duties from the Governor
and Colonial Treasurer of New Zealand to
the Superintendent and the Provincial Trea-
surer of the Province of Auckland respec-
tively," it was amongst other things enacted
that all the acts authorized or required to be
performed by and all the powers given to the
said Governor by the said recited Ordinance
should thenceforth cease to be performed by
the said Governor, and should and might
thereafter be performed and exercised as fully
and effectually for all intents and purposes
within the Province of Auckland by the
Superintendent thereof as the same could
before the passing of the said Act be done
and exercised by the said Governor: And
whereas the major part of the persons entitled
to become Electors within the District here-
in-after set forth have applied to me in manner
in the said Ordinance directed, to declare the
same to be a District within the provisions of
the said Ordinance:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said
powers and authorities in me vested, I, the
said Superintendent, do hereby proclaim and
declare that all those lands, comprising the
parish of Maunga Karamea; bounded on the
North by the Parish of Maungatapere;
on the East by Wangarei harbour, and the Man-
gapai and Panuira creeks to Rewa Rewa,
and by the south-eastern boundaries of Lots No.
79 and 86 of the Parish of Maunga Karamea
to the Tauraroa stream; on the South by the
Tauraroa stream, and by the line cut by Mr.
Sinclair as the southern boundary of the
Maunga Karamea purchase; and on the West
by the line cut by Mr. Sinclair as the western
boundary of the Maunga Karamea purchase,
and by the Wai Onepu stream; including all
roads traversing the lands within the before
mentioned boundaries, shall form a District
within the provisions of the said Ordinance, to be
called the District of Maungakaramea, and that
the period within which all claims to the right
of voting at the election of the first and every
succeeding Board of Commissioners for such
District shall be made, shall be between the
first and the thirty-first day of March in each
and every year.

Given under my hand, at Auckland,
this sixth day of February, one
thousand eight hundred and sixty-
two.

J. WILLIAMSON,
