SIR,—I herewith transmit for your Honor’s information a New Zealand Gazette of the 19th instant, containing a Despatch from Her Majesty’s Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, with Enclosures, respecting the proposed National Memorial to the late Prince Consort.

Downing-street, 24th May, 1862.
SIR,—I have the honor to transmit to you a letter which has been addressed to you from a Central Committee appointed by the General Committee formed for promoting the National Memorial to the lamented Prince Consort.
The object in appointing this Central Committee is to give a truly National character to the Memorial by affording to every class in the British Empire an opportunity of joining in this tribute of the Nation’s gratitude, and in forwarding the Letter which has been addressed to you as Governor of New Zealand, I feel that it is quite unnecessary for me to recommend its object to your attention.
