Act, 1858," I hereby notify that I have set apart ten allotments in the Wahu Township as sites for places of worship, and I hereby invite the Representatives of the several religious bodies recognised as having officiating Ministers within the provisions of the "Marriage Act," who may be resident within the Province of Auckland, and who may wish to obtain sites for places of worship, to make to the Waste Land Commissioner on or before Saturday the 16th day of July next, written application for one of the said allotments.

Given under my hand, at Auckland, in the said Province, the sixth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-nine.

PROCLAMATION.

By His Excellency Colonel THOMAS GORE BROWNE, Companion of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c.

WHEREAS the land hereinafter mentioned, has been acquired by purchase from the aboriginal inhabitants of New Zealand, and it is expedient that the acquisition thereof should be notified by Proclamation accordingly,

Now, therefore, I, the Governor, do hereby proclaim and notify that the Native Title has been extinguished over the Block of Land whereof the boundaries are mentioned or described in the Schedule hereunto annexed.

Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Colony, at Government House, at Auckland, this twenty-ninth day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-nine.

BOUNDARIES:

A line commencing at Waikaka on the Wairoa River, thence along the banks of that River to Aratawa, thence proceeding inland along the Survey line of Mr. Buchanan bearing 42° 30’ 163.16 links, thence in an Easterly direction 313° 30’ 98.27 links, thence to the Manganui River at Ohaua 37° 30’ 142.00 links, thence along the Manganui River to the boundary of Okahu block, thence along the boundary of that block 14° 15’ 270.80 links 338° 127.20 links 51° 7’ 106.20 links 42° 119.00 links, arriving at Waikaka at the Wairoa, being the point of commencement.

NEW ZEALAND FLAX.

£4000 REWARD.

THE Government of New Zealand is prepared, subject to the undermentioned conditions, to give rewards to the amount of £4000, for the discovery of efficient means for rendering the Flax, and other fibrous plants of New Zealand, available as articles of export, viz.:-

£2000

To the person who shall, by some process of his own invention, first produce from the Phormium Tenax, or other fibrous plant indigenous to New Zealand, one hundred tons of Merchandize.

£1000

To any person, other than the person entitled to the first reward, who shall by some process of his own invention, next produce from the Phormium Tenax, or other fibrous plant indigenous to New Zealand, one hundred tons of Merchandize.

£1000

Viz.:-£200 to each of the first five persons, other than those entitled to the first and second rewards, who shall by any process, whether of his own invention or not, produce from the Phormium Tenax, or other fibrous plant indigenous to New Zealand, twenty-five tons of Merchandize.

The Merchandize must be saleable as an article of Export from the Colony of New Zealand, and have been produced at a cost not exceeding 75 per cent. of its value at the Port of Entry from which it is exported; and the process used must be fully made known with a view to the discovery being at once made available to the public.

His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand will from time to time appoint Commissions, to consist of not less than three persons, to act at such places as circumstances may require, and each claim for reward will be referred to such Commission as may be considered the most convenient for its proper investigation. The acts of the majority will be deemed the acts of the Commission.

Each Commission shall be at liberty to adopt such means as it may deem most fit for determining the value and cost of production of the Merchandize, for ascertaining the process employed, and for fully investigating in all
