PROCLAMATION.

By JOHN WILLIAMSON, Esquire,
Superintendent of the Province
of Auckland, in the Colony of
New Zealand.

IN pursuance of the authority vested in me
in that behalf, I, the Superintendent of the
Province of Auckland, do hereby proclaim and
declare that a certain Wooden Building re-
cently erected, and the enclosure, situate on
allotment No. 30, of section No. 1, in the
Village of Mongonui, to be a Public Gaol, and
from and after the publication of this Proclamation the said building and enclosure shall be
deemed and taken to be a Public Gaol.

Given under my hand, at Auckland, this twenty-fifth day of June,
one thousand eight hundred and
fifty-nine.

HUNDRED OF HOWICK.

THE following Bye-laws are published for
general information.

Bye-Laws for the Hundred of Howick.

The following Bye-Laws have been adopted
by the Wardens of the above Hundred for the
year 1859, and are published for the information of License Holders :

1st. That all cattle depasturing on the Waste
Lands within the said Hundred, shall be
branded on some conspicuous part of the body
with the owners’ registered or returned brand,
under a penalty of 2s. 6d. per head for each
and every omission.

2nd. That all persons depasturing cattle as
aforesaid shall in the first week of January,
April, July, and October, give notice in writing
duly signed by him or her to the Wardens of
the said Hundred of the number of cattle then
running and bearing his or her brand, with a
description of the same, under a penalty of ten
shillings for the first omission, of one pound
for every further omission.

3rd. That each and every person who
shall depasture cattle above his proportion on
such Waste Lands, shall be assessed, and is
and are, hereby assessed for each and every head
of great cattle the sum of six pence per quarter
and for each and every head of sheep the sum
of one penny per quarter, payable quarterly in
advance, and that cattle for any portion of time
within any quarter, shall be chargeable and
paid for as if running the entire quarter.

4th. That no person shall run any cattle on
the said Waste Lands, but such as shall be his or
her own property, or bona fide hired by him
or her.

5th. That each and every person depasturing
cattle as aforesaid, shall at all times when required by the Ranger or any other person
authorised by the Wardens of the aforesaid
Hundred, give writing or otherwise, as the
Ranger or such person authorised may require
full and correct information of the number of
cattle running on his or her account, and every
person refusing to give such information or
giving false or evasive information shall forfeit
and pay the sum of one pound for each and
every offence.

6th. That no entire or male cattle great or
small shall be allowed to run upon any part of
the said Waste Lands without the consent in
writing of two of the Wardens at least, under
a penalty of twenty shillings for each and every
such offence.

7th. That any person worrying cattle by
driving them with dogs or otherwise off the
said Waste Lands, or other unenclosed lands,
not in the lawful occupation of the person so
driving off such cattle, shall forfeit and pay
the sum of one pound for the first offence, and
two pounds for the second and every other
offence.

NOTICE.

IMPOUNDED at the Public Pound, Newmarket, by Mr. Williamson, for trespassing on his grass paddock at Epsom.

One yellow and white poley steer, top off one ear, branded like M on rump.

No damages claimed. Owner unknown.

If not claimed within eleven days after the date of this notice, application will be made to a Justice of the Peace for an order for the sale of the above mentioned steer, agreeably to the provisions of the “Impounding Act, 1856.”
