HIS Excellency the Governor directs it to be notified that a Writ issued for the election of four Members of the Auckland Provincial Council for the Northern Division has been returned with the following certificate.

I hereby declare that the undermentioned gentlemen were duly nominated as Candidates to serve as Members of the Provincial Council for the Northern Division, and that at the close of the Poll, the numbers of votes of each was as stated opposite their respective names—
Allan O’Neill, Esq. ................ 423
Isaac Rhodes Cooper, Esq. ....... 427
John Munro, Esq. .................. 433
Walter Lee, Esq. ................... 364
James Carlton Hill, Esq. .......... 233
Bernard Reynolds, Esq. ........... 213
I therefore declare that Allan O’Neill, Esq., Isaac Rhodes Cooper, Esq., John Munro, Esq., and Walter Lee, Esq., having the largest number of votes, have been duly elected to serve as Members of the Provincial Council for the Northern Division.
I further declare that the votes received at Mr. Atkyn’s Station, Kaipara, were as follows—
Bernard Reynolds, Esq. ............ 6
(which are included in the 213).
And that the Poll was taken on the proper day by an individual deputed to receive it by Mr. Fenton, the duly appointed Deputy Returning Officer for that additional Polling Place, who was unable to perform that duty in consequence of meeting with a severe accident when en route.
I further declare that the individual who received the voting papers was not authorised so to do by me, Returning Officer.
