PROCLAMATION.
By His Honor John Logan Campbell,
Esq., Superintendent of the
Province of Auckland.
WHEREAS by an Act made and enacted
in the Parliament holden in the 15th
and 16th years of the reign of Her present
Majesty, intituled “An Act to grant a Re-presentative Constitution to the Colony of
New Zealand,” it is amongst other things
enacted, that for each of the Provinces esta-blished in New Zealand, there shall be a
Superintendent to be elected by the persons
duly qualified to elect members for the Pro-vincial Council. And whereas by a Procla-mation bearing date the fifth day of March
1853, made and issued by His Excellency
Sir George Grey, Governor-in-Chief
and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Islands
of New Zealand, it is amongst other things
provided that as soon as consistently may be,
after the voting for the election of a Super-
intendent shall have closed, the principal
Returning Officer of the capital town of the
Province, shall openly declare and publicly
notify the name of the person who may have
been duly elected at such election by a ma-jority of the voters of the whole Province to
be Superintendent thereof. And whereas the
principal Returning Officer for the Province
of Auckland, did, on this 10th November
1855, openly declare and publicly notify,
that at the election of a Superintendent for
the Province of Auckland, I, John Logan
Campbell, was duly elected by a majority of
the voters of the whole Province to be the
Superintendent thereof. Now therefore, I
do hereby proclaim and declare, that I have
assumed the office of Superintendent of the
Province of Auckland accordingly, and I
hereby call upon the inhabitants of the said
Province to be aiding and assisting me
therein.
