Mr. Boylan moved the consideration, in Committee, of the Superintendent’s amendments to the City Council Bill.

The Chairman presented the Bill, as amended, which, on motion of Mr. Boylan, was read a third time and passed.
Mr. Porter moved the consideration, in Committee, of the Superintendent’s amendments to the Auckland Harbour Bill.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
Mr. J. O’Neill presented a petition from a number of inhabitants of Auckland, against the City Building Bill. Petition received and read.
Mr. Newman gave notice that at the next meeting of the Council, he would move the following resolution—“That the Council, fully concurring in the advantages to be derived from Postal Communications being established in every district where the population is sufficiently numerous to justify the expense, requests that His Honour the Superintendent, as acting Governor for the time being, will direct that arrangements be at once made to have a Branch Post, by a small expense...
Mr. A. O’Neill gave notice that at the next meeting of Council, he would move that the Superintendent be requested to solicit the Officer administering the Government, to proclaim all lands yet unsold in the district of Pupuke, to be without the Hundred of said Pupuke.
Mr. Boylan, according to notice, moved that His Honour the Superintendent be requested to station one Policeman, if possible, upon duty at Otahuhu, the inhabitants providing a residence for him at their own expense. Agreed to.
The Speaker laid on the table Message No. 13, from the Superintendent, informing the Council of the Bills assented to by him on behalf of the Governor.
On Mr. Derrom moving the further consideration, in Committee, of the City Building Bill, Mr. J. O’Neill proposed and Mr. O’Brien seconded, that the Bill be read this day six months.
Debate ensued. On the amendment being put, Council divided.

Mr. Derrom moved the consideration of the clauses of which he had given notice—clauses 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, Schedules A, B, C, and D, read, amended, and agreed to.

The Chairman presented the Bill as amended.
Mr. Gilfillan moved that the word “Auckland” be inserted before the words “City Council Bill,” in clause 4. Agreed to.
Mr. Derrom gave notice that he would move that said Bill be read a third time at the next sitting of the Council.
Mr. O’Brien withdrew his notice respecting the introduction of a Distillation Bill. Agreed to.
Mr. Gilfillan moved the consideration of the Superintendent’s Message relative to Steam communication.
