NOTICE.

THE following Bye-laws having been made by the Boards of Commissioners for Cattle Districts Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, and approved by me, in accordance with the 30th Clause of the Branding of Cattle Ordinance, 1865, are now in force in each of the said districts, and are published for general information.

Bye-Laws for Cattle Districts Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

  1. The owners of all unbranded cattle which shall be caught under the authority of the Board shall, previous to taking possession of the same, pay to the Chairman or to any person deputed by him to receive the same, a sum not less than 10s. nor more than £3, as shall be decided by the Board as a remuneration for the cost of catching such cattle.

  2. Unbranded cattle not claimed within 48 hours after being caught (due notice being given) may be sold by auction or otherwise, by the Chairman of the Board.

  3. No unbranded cattle shall be awarded to any person who has not, before such cattle were exposed, given in a return of cattle owned, and land owned or occupied by him, as required by the 18th clause of the Ordinance.

  4. If any person shall remove any unbranded cattle, the ownership of which shall not have been decided, he shall pay to the board a sum not less than £5 nor more than £20 for so doing.

  5. If any person, being the owner of any unbranded or uncastrated cattle, shall fail to brand, castrate, and remove the same within 24 hours after he shall be declared the owner, he shall pay to the Board a sum not less than £1 nor more than £5.

  6. The Chairman of the Board shall, within three days from the slaughtering of any beast, deliver to the Inspector a full and particular account of the beasts so slaughtered.

  7. The Board shall meet not less than once a month for general business, and the Chairman or two members may call a meeting at any time, and at all such meetings a majority of the members shall form a quorum.

Election and Appointment of Cattle Commissioner for No. 1 District.

New Plymouth, November 29, 1865.

IT is hereby notified that at a General Meeting of the Electors of No. 1 District, under the “Branding of Cattle Ordinance, 1865,” held, pursuant to notice, on Monday, the 27th instant, for the purpose of electing Cattle Commissioners for the said District, the undermentioned gentlemen were duly elected: —

GEORGE TATE,
ROBERT GREENWAY.

And it is further notified that by virtue of the power vested in the Superintendent by the 22nd clause of the said Ordinance, I have appointed

JOHN KELLY

to be Commissioner for the same District.
