APPLICATIONS will be received at this Office from persons desirous of introducing Immigrants under the system of “assisted passages”—as provided for in the second part of the “Regulations for the expenditure of money applicable to the promotion of Immigration from Great Britain.”

In granting nominations for assisted passages, the Provincial Government will, so far as possible, be guided by priority of application, all applications made before the 7th of May next being considered as simultaneous. Between parties appearing eligible for nomination, the Provincial Government will, if necessary, decide by ballot.

REGULATIONS REFERRED TO:

II. Assisted passages of Immigrants selected by Residents.

  1. The Immigration Officer of the Province when instructed to do so by the Superintendent, shall advertise for applications for passages from Residents in the Province on behalf of persons to be nominated by the applicant.

  2. Each applicant shall state, as nearly as may be, the number of statute adults comprised in the nominee’s family.

  3. No nominee shall exceed the age of fifty years, except Parents of a family accompanied by not less than two children of the age of twelve years or upwards.

  4. An allowance at the rate of Ten pounds per statute adult of the passage money if it should amount to or exceed Twenty pounds per statute adult, or of one half the passage money if it should be less than Twenty pounds, shall be made by the Provincial Government in aid of the passages of Immigrants whose nomination is approved of by the said Government.

  5. The balance of passage money after deducting the Government allowance directed by article 6, shall be divided into two equal parts, for which the applicant shall be required to give promissory notes at twelve and twenty four months date respectively payable to the Provincial Treasurer, or such other person as the Superintendent shall appoint.

  6. Every nominee or head of a family, shall previously to embarkation give a promissory note, payable on demand to the Provincial Treasurer, or such other person as the Superintendent shall appoint, for the amount of passage money, less the Government allowance directed by article 6.

  7. The original applicant will be relieved of his liability in respect of his Notes of hand on the amount being liquidated by the nominee. Nevertheless the applicant shall be liable to the Provincial Government as a Principal.

  8. On the arrival in the Province, or proof of death on board ship, of any such nominee, the contractor, agent, or shipper, (as the case may be) shall be entitled to claim from the Provincial Treasury the amount of the promissory note of the nominee and the Government allowance directed by article 6.
