PROCLAMATION.
By GEORGE CUTFIELD, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of New Plymouth.
WHEREAS by an Ordinance enacted by the Governor of New Zealand, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, intituled "An Ordinance for imposing a tax upon Raupo Houses," it is amongst other things provided that it shall be lawful for His Excellency the Governor, from time to time, by Proclamation, to declare the provisions therein contained to be in force in any Town, or part of any Town, the boundaries whereof respectively shall be defined by Proclamation, And that on a day to be named in such Proclamation, not being less than six calendar months from the date thereof, and on the same day in every succeeding year, there shall be levied in respect of every building, constructed wholly, or in part of raupo, nikau, toetoe, wiwi, kakaho, straw or thatch of any description, and situate within the boundaries so defined, the sum of twenty pounds.
And whereas by an Ordinance of the Provincial Council of New Plymouth, intituled, the "Empowering Ordinance, 1857," it is amongst other things provided that the powers and authorities vested in the Governor of New Zealand by the said in part recited Ordinance shall and may within the Province of New Plymouth be thenceforth vested in and exercised by the Superintendent of the said Province.
Now, therefore, I do hereby proclaim and declare the provisions of the said Ordinance for imposing a Tax upon Raupo Houses to be in force within such portions of the Town of New Plymouth in the said Province of New Plymouth as are comprised within the following boundaries, namely:
Commencing at the sea beach in line with Morley street, thence along the sea beach to the Kauwau Pa Reserve, thence along the southern and eastern boundaries thereof to the sea beach, thence along the sea beach to Eliot street, thence along Eliot street to John street, thence along John street and Davy street to the Huatoki, thence along the Huatoki to Gilbert street, thence across the Huatoki to the Military Reserve, thence along the Military Reserve to Robe street, thence along Robe street to Downe street, thence along Downe street to Mt Edgecumbe street, thence along Mt Edgecumbe street to Young street, thence along Young street to Morley street and thence along Morley street to the sea beach.
And I do further proclaim and declare that the first day of January, One thousand eight hundred and fifty nine, shall be the day on which the first payment of Twenty Pounds shall be levied and demanded in respect of every Building constructed wholly or in part of raupo, nikau, toetoe, wiwi, kakaho, straw or thatch of any description and situate within the aforesaid boundaries.
