OTAGO PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.

NOTICE

Notice is hereby given, that in conformity with the "Depasturing Regulations," the first election of Wardens for the depasturing district of Waipori will be held on Thursday, the sixteenth day of October next ensuing.

The Board of Wardens for the district aforesaid shall consist of five elective members, one of whom shall hereafter be appointed chairman.

The following Regulations shall be the Regulations for the first election as aforesaid:

I. Nominations of candidates must be made in writing, addressed to the Warden at Lawrence, on or before Monday, the thirteenth day of October next, and in the following form, which must be signed in full by the proposer and seconder of every such candidate:

We hereby nominate [here insert name in full] to be a member of the first board of Wardens of the Waipori Depasturing District.

  • After the signatures of the proposer and seconder, the nature and particulars of the qualification under which they claim to vote must be stated.

II. If more than the requisite number of candidates are nominated, a poll shall take place on Thursday, the 16th October, from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m., and after the latter hour no further vote shall be allowed to be recorded; and the candidates in whose favor the greatest number of votes shall have been recorded at the said hour of 4 p.m. (or in the event of there not being more than the requisite number, then the candidates nominated) shall, as soon thereafter as may be, be declared by the Warden or other officer to have been duly elected for the ensuing six months.

III. No person shall be entitled to be so nominated, nor shall any person be entitled so to nominate, or to second the nomination of any candidate, unless he shall be possessed of one or other of the qualifications set forth and specified in Regulation No. 5 of the said Regulations.

IV. If any person shall improperly be elected as a member of the Board of Wardens, he not having duly and lawfully possessed of the qualification aforesaid at the time of election, it shall be in the power of the Board, upon due inquiry into all the circumstances of the case, to declare by a majority of votes that such election is null and void, and thereupon an election shall be held there and where, and as may be determined by the Board, for filling up the deficiency caused by such declaration.

V. Voters must attend in person to record their votes, and the document by virtue whereof they claim to vote must be produced to the Warden or presiding officer, who after recording the vote shall cause to be written upon some conspicuous part thereof the words "Voted, October 16th, 1873," together with his signature or initials.

VI. The poll (if taken) will be held at the Courthouse at Waipori.

VII. The names of all the candidates nominated shall be advertised in the local papers, and set forth in a Notice affixed to the front of the Court House.

DISPUTES RELATIVE TO DISTRICT ROADS.

APPLICATIONS will be received until the 26th instant from persons who would be willing to undertake on behalf of the Government the settlement of disputes between District Road Boards and the owners of property, through which deviations of district roads were made prior to the election of district Boards under the "Roads Ordinance 1871."

Information on the subject will be given on application at this office.

BONUS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A WOOL-PACK AND SACK MANUFACTORY IN OTAGO.

THE Provincial Government being desirous of encouraging the manufacture of Wool-packs and Sacks, is prepared to receive offers from parties willing to embark in the enterprise, and is further prepared to pay a bonus of £1500 as under:

  • On the erection of buildings and machinery to the value of at least £2000—£750.
  • On the production of Sacks or Wool-packs to a value of not less than £500—£400.
  • On the production of a further quantity of Sacks or Wool-packs to the value of not less than £1000—£350.

The cloth in each case to be produced by machinery permanently established in the Province, and to be manufactured either wholly or to a large extent from Phormium Tenax, or other indigenous plants, or from other material grown in the Province.

Offers will be received at the Provincial Government Offices, Dunedin, until the 1st of May, 1874, and should
