MEETING OF THE PROVINCIAL COUNCIL
PROCLAMATION:
By His Honor James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.
In pursuance of the power and authority vested in me in that behalf, I do hereby Fix and Proclaim that the twenty-fifth Session of the Provincial Council of the Province of Otago shall be holden within the Provincial Council Hall, Dunedin, in the said Province, and shall commence upon Thursday, the 22nd day of April next, at twelve o'clock noon; and the Members of the said Council are hereby warned to give their attendance at such time and place accordingly.
Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Province, this tenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.

NOTICE is hereby given that objections having been lodged with me against the shutting up of certain Road Lines, included in the “Roads Diversion Ordinance 1868,” situate in the Districts of Landon, Cranbourne, Anderson’s Bay, North-east Harbour, Tomahawk, Broad Bay, Portobello, Akatore, Helensbrook, Glenore, North Molyneux, Popotunoa, Te Houka, Glenavon, Deborah Bay, Breadalbane, Saddle-Hill, Finegand, Harlington, Pine Hill, Abbotsford, Kaikorai,
a Special Meeting of the Executive Council will be held in the Government Buildings, Dunedin, on Thursday, the eighth day of April, at noon, for the purpose of deciding the said objections, when parties interested are invited to be present.

The following Sailing Directions for entering Otago Harbour are published for general information.

Port Chalmers, 3rd March, 1869.
SIR,—Since the publication of that valuable Hand-Book, the “New Zealand Pilot,” which accurately describes all that was then known of Otago Harbor and the approaches thereto, certain alterations on the Bar have taken place, and other information has been obtained, thereby rendering it necessary that additional sailing directions be furnished for the guidance of Mariners trading to this Port, and accordingly, I do myself the honor to forward for the approval of the Government the accompanying sailing directions, respectfully recommending that, if approved, the same be forwarded to the General Government, as I am informed the Marine Engineer is collecting fresh information of all the Coasts and Harbors throughout New Zealand, with a view to having the same annexed to the New Zealand Pilot.

SAILING DIRECTIONS FOR APPROACHING AND ENTERING OTAGO HARBOR.
Vessels from the southward bound to Otago having passed the Nuggets and no certainty of getting up to the Heads during daylight, should (if a strong southerly wind is blowing) run up under easy canvas so as to be abreast of Tairoa’s Head at daylight, unless the master has a sufficient local knowledge to enable him to pick up the anchorage outside of the Bar, which is always safe when there is no casting in the wind.
