NOTICE TO RUNHOLDERS IN THE PROVINCE OF OTAGO.—Return of Stock and Payment of Assessment.—The Runholders in the Province of Otago are reminded that a Return of Great and Small Cattle depastured on the Lands comprised in their leases, must be lodged at the Land Office in the month of September of each year, in terms of Clause LXX of the “Otago Waste Lands Act, 1866,” and that the Assessment of sevenpence per head for Small Cattle and three shillings and sixpence per head for Great Cattle, must be paid to the Receiver of Land Revenue, on the first day of October thereafter, or their Runs will be inevitably forfeited.

EDUCATION RESERVES.—Printed Copies of the Education Board’s Amended Regulations and Conditions for the Leasing of the Education Reserves may now be had on application to J. Hislop, Sec’y.

EDUCATION RESERVES.—The Leases of the undermentioned Education Reserves will be disposed of by public auction, in the sale rooms of Messrs. Driver, Maclean and Co., High-street, Dunedin, upon the following-mentioned dates, viz. :

The Reserves in the districts of Moeraki, Waikouaiti, Palmerston, North Harbor and Blueskin, upon Monday, the 12th August, immediately after the sale of the Crown Lands in the Hundreds of Dunedin and East Taieri.

The Reserves in the Districts of Maungatua and Clarendon, upon Tuesday, the 13th August, immediately after the sale of the Crown Lands in the Hundreds of West Taieri and Waihola.

The Reserves in the districts of Table Hill, Hillend, and South Tuakitoto, upon Wednesday, the 14th August, immediately after the sale of the Crown Lands in the Hundreds of North and South Tokomairiro.

The Reserves in the districts of Pomahaka and Kuriwao, upon Thursday, the 15th August, immediately after the sale of the Crown Lands in the Hundreds of East and West Clutha.

WAITAKI FERRY.—Applications will be received at the Provincial Government Offices, Dunedin, until noon of Tuesday, 20th August, 1867, from parties willing to Work the above Ferry on the terms stated in the following proposed Memo. of Agreement.

MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT

made this _ day of __, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven, between His Honor William Sefton Moorhouse, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, of the one part; and __ of ___, of the other part, for Leasing the Ferry over the Waitaki River, for a term of one year, on the following terms :

The Government to find three boats—one large one, and two small ones; signals and signal-staffs, to be used on either bank of the river.

Lessee to find oars and tackle, boat-hooks and life-buoys for boats; two horses, harness, drays, as per Schedule A; and whatever may be necessary for the properly carrying on the Ferry service. All which articles, except horses, drays, and harness, are to become the property of the Government, and at the expiry or sooner determination of the lease, are to be handed over to whomsoever the Government may appoint, in good order and condition, fair wear and tear excepted.

The lessee to keep at least three steady, efficient, able-bodied men constantly engaged for the purpose of working the Ferry-boats; and to always work the boats with at least two hands.

The boats to be kept constantly in good order, and in readiness for instant use; a proper supply of rope, oars, and rowlocks, together with boat-hooks and life-buoys, to be always kept in each boat, as per Schedule B., attached.

The Ferrymen to turn out with all convenient speed at all hours between sunrise and sunset, when required to cross passengers, stock, &c., the state of the river permitting.

When the Ferry is not actually being used, one man to be constantly on the look-out, who shall attend to the signal-staff.

The whole Ferry business to be worked under the inspection and to the satisfaction of the Government, or of any person or persons appointed by His Honor the Superintendent for that purpose.

Such tolls only are to be charged as are specified in Schedule C.

A bonus of one hundred and fifty pounds to be allowed to lessee, in quarterly instalments, and will be paid on the certificate of the person to be appointed by His Honor the Superintendent—that the service is being properly performed.

In the event of the lessee failing to comply with the conditions above written, the Ferry to revert to the Provincial Government, and the lessee to be liable to a penalty of fifteen pounds per month of the unexpired term of the lease.

The lease to be terminable by three months’ notice on either side.

As witness the hands of the said parties, the day and year first before written.

SCHEDULE A above referred to.

Oars, tackle, ropes, two horses, harness, life-buoys, tarpaulins for protection of goods, and all plant necessary for the proper and efficient working of the Ferry.

SCHEDULE B above referred to.

Articles to be kept in each boat—

12 yards of 1-inch rope.

5 oars, besides steering oar.

Rowlocks sufficient, and one spare rowlock.

1 boat-hook.

Life-buoys (to be approved by the Government).

BLUESKIN ROAD DISTRICT.—Notice, the Local Board of the Blueskin Biv District hereby notify their intention to apply to the General Road Board at its next meeting for authority to levy a highway rate of threepence per acre in said District, for the year 1867-8.

Also the Assessment Roll for said District can be inspected fourteen days from date at the store of Mr. Thomas Quayle, Blueskin, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Sundays and public holidays excepted.
