to be Inspector of Slaughter Yards for the Dunedin District, vice Sergeant-Major Moore, transferred.

Victoria, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith: To John Rose, of the schooner, "Jessie Kelly," Master, Henry Houghton, of Dunedin in the Province of Otago and Colony of New Zealand, Merchant, and Thomas Hill, of Dunedin aforesaid, Collector of Customs, and to all persons whom it may concern.

Greeting:

WHEREAS an action is now pending in our Supreme Court of New Zealand, Otago and Southland District, Province of Otago, between John Cargill, Edward Bowes Cargill, and George McLean, all of Dunedin aforesaid, merchants, trading under the style or firm of Cargills and McLean, Plaintiffs, and Robert Kellie, of Sydney, in the Colony of New South Wales, shipowner, Defendant; and in order that the Plaintiffs may proceed in the said action,
We command you that you and each of you do retain and keep all and singular the real and personal property of whatsoever nature in the custody or under the control of you or either of you at the time of the service of this Writ, belonging to the above-named Defendant or to or in which such Defendant shall at that time be legally or equitably entitled or otherwise beneficially interested, and whether solely or jointly with any other person or persons, and all debts of every kind then due by you or either of you to such Defendant, although the same or any part thereof may be payable only at a future day: And more particularly a vessel or schooner called the "Jessie Kelly" and all the gear, tackling and appurtenances to the said vessel or schooner belonging or appurtenant thereto, and all papers and documents relating to the said vessel or schooner in your possession or control: And take notice

that at the hour of ten of the clock in the forenoon on the next day on which a Judge of this Honorable Court shall sit at his chambers, Supreme Court House, Dunedin aforesaid, after the publication of a copy of this Writ in the Otago Provincial Government Gazette, the said Judge shall proceed to enquire into and determine the matters mentioned in Section 11 of "The Absent Debtors Act, 1860."

Witness His Honor Henry Samuel Chapman, Esquire, a Judge at Dunedin aforesaid of our (L.S.) Supreme Court, New Zealand, this thirty-first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and sixty seven.

NOTICE of the Election of Mayor.

I hereby notify that on the 16th day of July, 1867, Daniel Rolfe, Esq., of East Ward, was duly elected Mayor of Port Chalmers, for the year ending 1st day of August, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.

In the matter of James Ure Russell, a prisoner for debt.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a petition for the distribution of the estate of James Ure Russell, now a prisoner for debt in Her Majesty’s Gaol at Dunedin, among his creditors, has been presented by a creditor of the said James Ure Russell for a sum exceeding £50, to his Honor Mr Justice Chapman, and has been accepted; and that by an order of the said Judge, the said petition will be heard upon Monday, the fifth day of August next, at the Court House, Dunedin.
