Commercial Inn,
TURNER'S TERRACE, BANK SQUARE.
J. R. YOUNG, has the honor to acquaint his numerous friends and the Public in general, that he has at length (at a great expense,) completed his arrangements in the above INN, for the reception of Gentlemen and Private Families, where will be found the highest comforts—quite equal to those in the most respectable Hotels in the adjacent Colonies, the want of which has hitherto been so loudly complained of, and so much required, in New Zealand.

The situation, directly in the rear of the Police Office and New Zealand Bank, is the most salubrious in Kororarika, whilst it is in the centre of the business portion of the Town, where Boats can land in the severest weather—a very great advantage.

He has laid in the choicest collection of Wines, Spirits, Ale, Porter, Cordials, &c. the Colonies can afford, and hopes by strictly looking to the comforts of his Guests, to meet with a liberal share of Public patronage.

A portion of very fine Land at the Ananui, consisting of from 3 to 5000 Acres, in every respect adapted for the purposes of Farming or depasturing Cattle or Sheep. It has a fine river running through it, capable of admitting a vessel of from 10 to 15 tons. It is bounded by the Western Coast where there is some good Land, and a dry run for Sheep. The Land lies particularly well for the plough, being one continued flat, and free from stumps of trees or other impediments.—There are about two miles of wood connected with it, fit for fencing and ordinary purposes, besides several patches of puriri.
The Title is as good as that of any Land in New Zealand can possibly be.

The distance from the Bay of Islands is about 80 miles by water or two days’ journey over land.

The Proprietor proposes either to dispose of it as a whole, or in parcels of 200 acres, more or less, or to let it out as a cattle run or in small Farms.
Further particulars may be obtained upon application to WM. WILSON.

To our Subscribers and Friends. —Owing to the severe damage which our materials received during our voyage, we have been unable to come before the Public as well as we wished. The New Zealand Advertiser AND BAY OF ISLANDS GAZETTE.
KORORARIKA :-JUNE 19, 1840

Some of our friends in the other Colonies are, we are well aware, waiting for correct intelligence respecting the state and capabilities of New Zealand, both original and as a British Colony. We will not undertake to furnish them with that intelligence until we are in possession, ourselves of the best acquiring it from the most authentic sources. Our private opinion ought not to influence any persons in choosing this Country for their home any more than that of other persons. Our constant endeavours, therefore, will be, to arrive at the truth; and in order to enable us to arrive at this object, we trust our Subscribers located in different parts of the Island, will favor us from time to time with such knowledge of facts relating to the country, as they may possess.

It was expected that a meeting would be held yesterday, at Wood’s Hotel, on the subject of the Hospital, to receive the Report of the Deputation to His Excellency, appointed at the last meeting, but from some cause, of which we are not aware, it did not take place.

The meadows and pastures of the United Kingdom are stated to amount to 27,000,000 acres, or three-fifths of the land hitherto brought under cultivation. We should like to know, from authentic sources, what amount of the land in this Island within the range of European Colonization, is cultivated, and what portion is employed for the growth of corn and vegetables.

Kororarika Police Report.
THURSDAY, 3RD JUNE, 1840.
William Webster was brought before John Johnston, Esq., J. P., charged by Mr. Hector with robbing his schooner of about 14lbs. of some check shirts and three bottles of rum. A native woman, in whose hut part of the tobacco was found, stated, that Webster had entered her hut, with two more men, with his pockets filled with tobacco, and had given her about 2lbs., and that he had two bottles in his hand which, she thought was filled with rum. Mr. swore to having sold Mr. Hector some tobacco, a few days previously, and that the tobacco found was part of the same. Some tobacco was also found in Webster's box corresponding with the other. The prisoner was remanded for the apprehension of the other two men.

Since that time, Thomas Bull, another of the parties implicated, has been apprehended.

SATURDAY, JUNE 13, 1840.
William Webster was again brought up for examination, but allowed to turn Queen’s evidence against the second prisoner, Bull.

Aipari, the Native woman, proved to Bull’s having been in her hut with Webster and Burns, and to having some of the Tobacco in his possession. The evidence of Webster was given with so much prevarication, that he was remanded on that charge.

Bull was committed for trial for the robbery.

Court was held yesterday, the particulars of which we may furnish in our next.
