WEDNESDAY next, the 24th instant, being the Anniversary of Her Majesty’s Birthday, His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to direct that it be observed as a holiday at the public offices.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to give directions for the publication of the following copy of a Royal warrant, for general information.

VICTORIA REGINA.

WHEREAS, by various Acts now in force relating to the payment and enrolment of Chelsea and Greenwich Pensioners, it is lawful for Her Majesty from time to time, by Warrant under the Royal Sign Manual, to fix the number of men to be enrolled in our Colonies as a Local Force, for the preservation of the Public Peace, Our Will and Pleasure therefore is, that, of the said Pensioners residing in the colony of New Zealand, there shall be enrolled as a Local Force, in pursuance of the provisions of the said Acts, Six Hundred Men; in addition to the number of men authorised to be enrolled in the United Kingdom.

Given at our Court at St. James’s, this thirtieth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and forty-seven, in the eleventh year of our Reign.

PROCLAMATION.

By His Excellency GEORGE GREY, Esquire, Governor-in-Chief in and over the Islands of New Zealand, and Governor of the Provinces of New Ulster and New Munster, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c.;

I, THE GOVERNOR of the Province of New Ulster, do hereby proclaim that at eleven o’clock on Tuesday, the eleventh day of July, one thousand eight hundred and forty-eight, the Colonial Treasurer will put up to Auction, at the Treasury, in Auckland, the undermentioned allotments of land, hereby declared to be within the limits of settlement.

Immediate payment in cash to be an indispensable condition of sale.
