PROCLAMATION.
By His Excellency Sir George Grey,
K.C.B., Governor-in-Chief in and
over the Islands of New Zealand,
and Governor of the Provinces of
New Ulster and New Munster, and
Vice Admiral of the same, &c., &c.,
&c.
WHEREAS, by an Ordinance enacted by the Governor-in-Chief of New Zea-
land, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, Session 9, No. 2,
intituled "An Ordinance for regulating the Conveyance and Postage of Letters," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Go-
vernor-in-Chief from time to time, by Proclamation to be published in the Govern-
ment Gazette, to abolish, alter, and fix the Colonial Postage payable for the transmission by Post of letters and other papers within the said colony, and to alter, repeal or abolish any Colonial Postage so altered or fixed as aforesaid, and to make or esta-
blish any new or other Postage in lieu thereof:
And whereas, in the table of Rates of Postage attached to the Post Office Regu-
lations at present in force within the colony it is declared that—
"In addition, all the above letters and newspapers, if conveyed by Post from the Port of arrival to any other Port of the colony, are liable to an additional inland Postage of fourpence on letters, and one-penny on newspapers."
And whereas it is expedient that the foregoing Regulation be rescinded.
Now, therefore I, the said Governor-in-Chief, do hereby proclaim and declare, that the said Regulation is rescinded from the aforesaid table of Rates.
And that, in lieu thereof, there shall be substituted the following:—
"In addition, all letters, if conveyed by Post from the port of arrival to any other port of the Colony, are liable to an additional Postage of one penny.
And I declare that the rates on such letters as aforesaid shall be charged and are payable accordingly.
This Proclamation shall take effect from and after the day on which it may be received at the several Post Offices in the colony of New Zealand.

NOTICE.
Custom House, Wellington,
5th December, 1848.
THE Stores undermentioned have been approved, provisionally, for the free warehousing and securing of Goods for Duties under Bond, in terms of the Ordinance of the Governor and Council of New Zealand, No. 3, of 4th Victoria, Section 34.:
A Wooden Store, corner of Farish Street, occupied by P. M. Hervey, Esquire, Merchant.
A Wooden Store in Willis Street; occupied by Messrs. W. M. Bannatyne, & Co., Merchants, and
A Brick Store, situated on Lambton Quay, occupied by Messrs. James Smith & Co., Merchants.
