has been appointed a Resident Magistrate.

HIS Honour the Superintendent directs it to be notified that the names of the undermentioned Gentlemen have been added to the Commission of the Peace for the Province of Nelson :—

HIS Honour the Superintendent directs it to be notified that the undermentioned portion of the Waste Lands of the Crown as hereinafter described has been RESERVED as a Village or Town Site :—

A Block of Land at the extremity of the Northern Boulder Bank, at the mouth of the River Wairau, bounded on the North by a straight line from the N.E. corner of the smaller Native Reserve due East to the Sea, on the South by the River Wairau, on the East by the Sea, and on the West by the aforesaid Native Reserve and by the River Wairau.

The Nelson Provincial Council Buildings (depicted) were constructed beginning with the laying of the foundation stone on 26 August 1859, with the first Council meeting held there on 30 April 1861.

The buildings served Nelson for over a century before being demolished on 12 September 1969.
