PROCLAMATION.
By JOHN CHILTON LAMBTON CARTER, Esq.,
Superintendent of the Province of
Hawke’s Bay in the Islands of New Zealand.
WHEREAS by a Proclamation issued in the Government Gazette of the Province of Hawke’s Bay, and bearing date the 28th day of November, 1859, It was notified that, "in order to prevent an undue monopoly of Timber in the Pukititiri, and Pohui forests, or of frontages to the proposed Main road to Taupo leading through the Pukititiri District; that the land included within the following boundaries, and estimated to contain about seventy thousand acres, will, from and after this date be reserved from sale till the road shall have been laid out, and the agricultural and bush land surveyed, divided into sections, and be again notified as open for general selection, or sale by auction, as the case may be, viz.; All that portion of the Ahuriri Block, bounded on the south-west by the Wai-iti and the Manga-hou-bou stream; on the South by an East and West line, so as to include the Pukititiri forest; on the West by a line from the westernmost point of the Pukititiri forest to the mouth of the Mohaka stream; towards the north by the river Mokahau as far as the Taupo path, on Messrs. Towgood & Campbell’s run, and towards the Northeast by the native path from Taupo to Ahuriri, Waikimaka-tangata and Mangaone."
Now therefore I, John Chilton Lambton Carter, Superintendent of the Province of Hawke’s Bay, do hereby Proclaim and Notify that, the Land specified in the above-quoted Proclamation (excepting the Land set aside for sale by auction at Pukititiri Pukiaka, and Pohui, and which land is delineated on the map of the Pohui District) shall be open for Public Selection at the Land Office, Napier, on and after Monday, the 31st day of March, 1862, under the Regulations of the 4th March, 1853, and the additional Regulations of 1855.

NOTICE.
Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Auckland, 27th January, 1862.
THE Government having been informed that attempts are being made to obtain leases of land from aboriginal Natives, in anticipation of the sanction of Government being hereafter given to them, all persons are hereby cautioned that such leases are at present invalid and contrary to law, and that the Government will not consider itself bound in any way to recognize or sanction any dealings for Waste lands between Europeans and Natives transacted previously to the establishment of the intended system of Native Government in a district where such lands may be situated, nor previously to the title to such lands being ascertained to the satisfaction of Government, and the fulfilment of such conditions as the Government may hereafter prescribe in reference to such transactions.

THE following Tenders, viz., making Bridge and Road near Clive; supplying the Waipawa Court-house with certain Articles; and making 7 chains of Road in the Waipawa Gorge, are published for general information.
TENDERS ACCEPTED.
Making Bridge and Approaches thereto on Clive Road—
Mr. H. Renouf, for the sum of £54 10s.
Supplying the Waipawa Court House with the following Articles—
Mr. G. Clark—3 Tables, 1 Press, 3 fix Bedsteads, 1 Sofa Bedstead, 2 Washstands, Bar across Court, Dock and Witness Boxes, Blind Rollers, and Furniture for windows—for the sum of £30.
M. Boylan—Fender, Fire-irons, and Dogs, £3 2s. 6d.; 1 Camp Oven, 10s. 6d.; 1 tin Teapot to hold half a gallon, 6s. 6d.; 1 Frying Pan, 4s. 6d.; 3 Candlesticks, 9s.; 3 Pannikins, 3s.; 1 Tin Dish, oval, 24 inches, 6s. 6d.; 1 Saucepan, 7s.; 1 Tea Kettle, 9s. 6d.; 3 Tin Plates, 3s.; 3 Spoons, 1s. 6d.; 3 Knives and Forks, 6s. 6d.; 1 American Tub, 7s.; 4 Buckets.
