Canterbury for the protection of the trout placed in the River Avon.

And whereas it is deemed expedient by the Executive Government of the Province of Canterbury to rescind the said Regulations, and to make other provision in lieu thereof:

Now, therefore, His Honor William Rolleston, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council thereof, doth, by virtue, and in exercise of the powers delegated to the Executive Government of the said Province of Canterbury, and of every and any other power in any wise enabling the Provincial Executive in that behalf, hereby make the Regulations following, that is to say:—

  1. The said Regulations shall be, and the same are hereby rescinded.

  2. It shall be lawful for any person upon obtaining from the Secretary of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society a License under his hand, authorising him so to do to fish for Trout with rod and line in the River Avon, from its source to New Brighton.

  3. All Trout taken by any person so fishing as aforesaid and not exceeding eight inches in length shall be immediately returned alive to the said river, and any person convicted of infringing this Regulation shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding Twenty Pounds Sterling, and his license shall become void.

  4. A fee of One Pound Sterling shall be paid to the said secretary of the said Society on the issue of every such license.

  5. Such license shall continue in force from the date of its issue until the 31st day of March, 1875, and no longer, and shall not be transferable.

  6. Subject to the foregoing Regulations, no person shall fish in the said River Avon; and any person offending against this Regulation shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding One Hundred Pounds Sterling.

  7. The last preceding Regulation shall not apply to fishing for whitebait with nets.

SALE OF TOWN AND RURAL LANDS.

His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has fixed TUESDAY, the 23rd day of February, 1875, at Eleven o’clock in the Forenoon, at a Sitting of the Waste Lands Board, in the Land Office, at Christchurch, as the time and place when a Sale by Auction of Town and Rural Land shall take place, in accordance with Clause 24 and Clause 35 of the Waste Lands Regulations, and Section 8 of “The Canterbury Waste Lands Act, 1873,” subject to the usual conditions of sale, and in conformity with the regulations for the disposal, letting, and occupation of the Waste Lands of the Crown now in force within the Province of Canterbury.

Applications will be received by the Waste Lands Board on and up to MONDAY, the 22nd day of February, 1875.

SALE OF LITTLE RIVER TIMBER RESERVES.

Notice is hereby given that the Block of Little River Timber Reserves, specified below, will be submitted to Public Auction at the Office of the Waste Lands Board Christchurch, on Tuesday 16th day of February 1875 at 12 noon, in accordance with the provisions of “The Little River Reserves Sales Ordinance, 1869.”

PROCLAMATION.

Whereas the owners and occupiers of land and householders in the Educational District of Carleton have failed within the time limited for that purpose by the Board of Education to contribute and pay to the Provincial Treasurer the amount fixed by the Board as the contribution of the said district for school purposes:

Now, therefore, I, William Rolleston, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in pursuance of the powers vested in me, and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, do hereby declare an uniform rate of one shilling in the £ to be leviable within the said district under the provisions of the 42nd section of “The Education Ordinance, 1873.”
