the limits of any Educational District to be
an Educational District :

Now, therefore, I, WILLIAM ROLLESTON,
Superintendent of the said Province, in pur-
suance of the powers vested in me do hereby,
by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council, declare the portion of
the Province hereinafter described to be an
Educational District, with the name and
with the boundaries as are hereinafter set
forth :β€”

CARLETON EDUCATIONAL DISTRICT.

Bounded on the west by the East Ox-
ford educational district, on the east
by the Cust and West Eyreton dis-
tricts, on the north by the river
Ashley and a straight line drawn
from the north-east corner of section
8175 due east to the river Ashley, on
the south by the Halewood road by
Riccarton to where it meets the river
Eyre, and from thence to the south-
east corner of section 13675.

Given under my hand at Christchurch,
this 23rd day of June, one thousand
eight hundred and seventy-four.

PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the
Superintendent and the Provincial
Council of the Province of Canterbury inti-
tuled "The Education Ordinance, 1873," it
is among other things provided that it shall
be lawful for the Superintendent to alter
boundaries of any Educational District and
to divide any Educational District into two
or more districts or parts of districts, or to
combine two or more districts or parts of
districts into one or to add portions of any
district to any adjoining district, or to add
any locality not being or forming part of
a district to an Educational District, and in

every such case the district or districts con-
stituted or affected thereby shall be deemed
to be and shall be proclaimed as provided in
the said Ordinance as newly constituted
Educational District or Districts.

Now, therefore, I, WILLIAM ROLLESTON,
Superintendent of the said Province, in pur-
suance of the powers vested in me by the
27th section of the said before-recited Ordi-
nance, and by and with the advice of the
Executive Council do hereby alter the limits
of the Upper Ashburton Educational Dis-
trict, and I do hereby proclaim the district
as specified in the Schedule hereunto an-
nexed to be a newly constituted Educational
District within the meaning of "The Edu-
cation Ordinance, 1873."

SCHEDULE.

UPPER ASHBURTON.

Bounded on the south by a straight line
drawn from source of South Ashbur-
ton River to north-east corner of Lake
Acland; thence in a straight line to
the source of North Hinds; following
course of North Hinds to where it is
joined by the South Hinds on the
east; from point of junction of South
and North Hinds in a straight line
to the point where Bowyer's stream
joins South Ashburton; thence in a
straight line due north to the north
branch of the River Ashburton; on
the north by the said north branch
and by a straight line drawn from the
southernmost corner of section 13617
where the north branch of the river
emerges from the hills to the source
of the south branch of the river.

this 27th day of June, one thou-
sand eight hundred and seventy-
four.
