His Honor the Superintendent directs to be notified that, at a Meeting held at Kaiapoi, on Thursday the 28th day of November, 1867, under the provisions of the 14th clause of “The Municipal Council Ordinance, Session XIV, No. 2,” the following Persons were duly elected to serve as Members of the Kaiapoi Municipal Council:—

IMMIGRATION COMMISSION.

SHIP “GLENMARK.”

The Commissioners report that every part of the vessel was cleanly, comfortable, and orderly. The Immigrants expressed every satisfaction with the provisions, and with the care and attention they had received.

The Master, Surgeon, and Officers are recommended for full gratuities.

The Commissioners have again to complain of the mixture of classes in the compartments which should be allotted to Immigrants alone. This in the married compartment had caused quarrelling between immigrants and passengers, in one case leading to a breach of the peace, which has had to be referred to the Magistrate’s Court here.

In the single women’s compartment a portion were indulged with enclosed berths, and in consequence refused to take their share of duty in cleaning, &c.
