PROCLAMATION

By His Honor SAMUEL BEALEY, Esq.,
Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, withdrawing certain Waste Lands of the Crown, situate within the West Canterbury Gold Field.

WHEREAS, on the Second day of March, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-five, I, SAMUEL BEALEY, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in exercise of the powers delegated to and vested in me in that behalf, did, by Proclamation in the Provincial Government Gazette, constitute and appoint a certain portion of the said Province to be a Gold Field under the name of the “West Canterbury Gold Field,” and the limits of which Gold Field I did in and by a Proclamation, dated the Fourth day of March, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-five, extend:

And whereas the Lands hereinafter described are within the said limits, and form part of the said West Canterbury Gold Field so proclaimed as aforesaid: And whereas it has been made to appear to me that the said lands are necessary for public purposes:

Now, therefore, I, SAMUEL BEALEY, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in exercise of the powers delegated to and vested in me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that I do withdraw the lands hereinafter described; that is to say,—

All that tract of land, being one hundred acres, more or less, situate on the road from Hokitika to Browning’s Pass, commencing at a point on the said road, being about fifty chains below the confluence of the Kokotahi with the Styx, following the said road in a south-westerly direction a distance of twenty-five chains, and extending back north-westerly forty chains in a rectangular block.

All that tract of land, being nine acres two roods, more or less, situate on the plain at the foot of the wooded saddle, near the source of the Styx, on the road from Hokitika to Browning’s Pass, having frontage of nine chains sixty links to the road, and extending back north-westerly ten chains, in a rectangular block.

Given under my hand, at Christchurch, this Thirtieth day of May, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-six.

His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has made the following Reserves, temporarily, under the 19th clause of the Waste Land Regulations;

viz.—

No. 734 (in red).—One hundred acres, more or less, situate on the road from Hokitika to Browning’s Pass, commencing at a point on the said road, being about fifty chains below the confluence of the Kokotahi with the Styx, following the said road in a south-westerly direction a distance of twenty-five chains, and extending back north-westerly forty chains in a rectangular block—For the purposes of a Ferry.

No. 735, in red.—Nine acres two roods, more or less, situate on the plain at the foot of the wooded saddle, near the source of the Styx, on the road from Hokitika to Browning’s Pass, having frontage of nine chains sixty links to the road, and extending back north-westerly ten chains, in a rectangular block—For the purposes of an Accommodation House.
