PROCLAMATION.
By His Excellency Colonel Thomas Gore Browne, Companion of the most Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c.
WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly, entitled the "Marriage Act Amendment Act, 1858," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor at any time by Proclamation in the New Zealand Gazette to divide the Colony of New Zealand, for the purposes of the said Act, into such and so many districts as he shall think fit, and every such district shall be called by a distinct name, and shall be a Registrar’s District. Provided always that the Governor may at any time revoke the whole or any part of such proclamation, and issue a new proclamation, dividing the Colony or any portion of it anew into Districts, or increasing the number or altering the boundaries of Districts, as from time to time he may think requisite, and it was provided that the Districts already proclaimed under "The Marriage Act, 1854," shall be deemed to be Districts constituted under the now reciting Act.
Now, therefore, I, the Governor of the said Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance of the power and authority in me vested by the said in part recited Act, do hereby revoke every proclamation at any time heretofore issued, appointing and declaring Registrars’ Districts, under the said "Marriage Act, 1854," and the said "Marriage Act Amendment Act, 1858," or either of the said Acts, and I do, by this Proclamation, divide the said Colony, for the purposes of the said Act, into Districts, the names and boundaries whereof shall be as follows:
MOUNT GREY DISTRICT.
From the South bank of the Hurunui to the North bank of the Ashley.
KAIAPOI DISTRICT.
From the South bank of the Ashley to the North bank of the Waimakariri.
CHRISTCHURCH DISTRICT.
From the South bank of the Waimakariri to the North bank of the Rakaia, except Lyttelton and Akaroa Districts.
ASHBURTON DISTRICT.
From the North bank of the Rakaia, including the Islands, to the North bank of the Rangitata.
TIMARU DISTRICT.
From the South bank of the Rangitata to the North bank of the Waitangi.
LYTTELTON DISTRICT.
From the Old Ferry over the Heathcote, at the end of the Ferry road, thence along the South bank of the Estuary of the Avon and Heathcote and the Sea Coast (including the Islands in Port Victoria) to a point half-way between the Eastern headland of Port Levy and the Western headland of Pigeon Bay, thence to the North branch of the Little River, thence down the course of that River and Lake Forsyth to the Sea, thence along the east edge of Lake Ellesmere to the River Halswell, Cooper’s Knobs, thence along the highest ridge of the Hills to the Flagstaff on Mount Pleasant, thence in a right line to the starting point.
AKAROA DISTRICT.
All that portion of the Province lying to the Eastward of Lyttelton District.
And I hereby declare that this Proclamation shall come into operation and take effect on the first day of October next.
Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Colony, at Government House, at Auckland, this Sixth day of July, in the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty-nine.

PROCLAMATION.
By His Excellency Colonel Thomas Gore Browne, Companion of the most Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c.
WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled "The Militia Act, 1858," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council from time to time to constitute throughout the colony, or any part thereof, Militia Districts, and such districts from time to time to vary, and to designate the Militia of any such district by the name of a Regiment, Battalion, Corps, or Company.
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, in exercise of the above recited power, doth by this present order constitute a Militia District to be called and known by the name of CHRISTCHURCH;
and doth define the boundaries of the said District as follows, that is to say:
The circumference of a circle, the radius of which extends fifteen miles from the present Land Office in the Town of Christchurch.
And doth designate the Militia within the said district by the name of a Battalion.
