I have the honor to state for His Excellency's information, that Captain Simeon being about to resign the offices now held by him previously to his return to England, I have temporarily, and until Her Majesty's pleasure shall be known, appointed Henry John Tancred, Esq., to be a Resident Magistrate for the districts of Lyttelton and Christchurch, and I contemplate, so soon as Captain Simeon resigns, also appointing Mr. Tancred to be the Sheriff of this Province, in the same manner provisionally. I have therefore the honor to request that his Excellency will be pleased to obtain Her Majesty's approval of Mr. Tancred's appointment as a Resident Magistrate, and as the Sheriff of this Province.

Referring to your Honor's letter of the 16th ultimo, No. 54, requesting that Mr. Tancred might be appointed a Resident Magistrate for the districts of Lyttelton and Christchurch, vice Captain Simeon, who is about to resign, I am directed by the Governor to forward to you a Commission under his Excellency's hand, appointing that gentleman Resident Magistrate accordingly, and I have to request that you will cause to be paid the sum of 10s. 6d., the fee on this Commission, into the hands of the sub-treasurer, who has been instructed to receive it.
