AUCKLAND PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.

PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY.

VOL. XXV.] MONDAY, OCTOBER 30, 1876. [No. 45.

PROCLAMATION.

By His Honour Sir George Grey, Knight
Commander of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Superintendent of the Province of Auckland.

UNDER and in pursuance of the powers in me vested by "The Slaughterhouse Act, 1866," I do hereby revoke the appointment of a Public Slaughterhouse at Parawai, within the Thames Slaughterhouse District, made by Proclamation dated the third day of March, 1868, and published in the Auckland Provincial Government Gazette, dated the sixth day of March, 1868.

Given under my hand and the Public Seal of the said Province, at Wellington, in the Province of Wellington, this 27th day of October, 1876.

G. Grey,
Superintendent of the Province of Auckland.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

Superintendent’s Office,
Auckland, 27th October, 1876.

THE following Correspondence is published by direction of His Honour the Superintendent for general information.

Reader Wood,
Provincial Secretary.

[TELEGRAM.]

New Zealand,
October 16th, 1876.

I respectfully state that when I sent a telegram on the 7th instant, the knowledge that the Governor had written his despatch of the 21st June last was withheld from me. I knew nothing of its contents, nor did the Assembly.

G. Grey.

To the Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, London.

Wellington, New Zealand,
16th October, 1876.

MY LORD,

I have the honour to enclose a telegram to Her Majesty’s Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, which I respectfully request your Excellency will be so good as to transmit without delay.

I have the honour to be,
My Lord,
Your Lordship’s most obedient humble servant,
G. Grey.

To His Excellency the Governor.

Wellington, 17th October, 1876.

MY LORD,

On Friday, the 13th instant, I for the first time read the despatch which Your Excellency addressed to the Secretary of State for the Colonies on the 21st June last—that is, nearly four months after it had been sent from this Colony.

I was surprised and sorry on finding the statements Your Excellency had made to the Queen’s Principal Secretary of State regarding myself, and beg to offer the following explanations in reference to them.

In the first place it should be remembered that the circumstances upon which Your Excellency’s despatch rest are stated to have transpired in a private conversation I am alleged to have held on some evening about June, 1875, at the Club at Auckland, I presume, for I think I never met the narrator of this alleged conversation at any private house on any evening or at any other time.
