ADDRESS.
To His Royal Highness Prince Alfred Ernest Albert, Duke of Edinburgh,
MAY IT PLEASE YOUR ROYAL HIGHNESS,
The Inhabitants of the Province of Auckland, in the Colony of New Zealand, desire to express to your Royal Highness their devotedness and attachment to Her most gracious Majesty’s person, throne, and family, and to assure your Royal Highness that in no portion of her Empire has her Majesty more loyal subjects.
They are deeply imbued with a sense of the high honour bestowed upon them by the visit of one of her Majesty’s sons. The entrance into the harbour of Auckland of her Majesty’s ship Galatea, under the command of your Royal Highness, cannot fail to be followed by the most beneficial results to this peculiarly maritime district.
They earnestly trust, under God’s providence, your Royal Highness’ presence will exercise a most happy influence on the relations existing between the two races which inhabit New Zealand.
Signed on behalf of the inhabitants of the Province,
J. Williamson,
Superintendent.
