NOTICE is hereby given that at the sitting of this Court to be held at
Otamatea, Kaipara, on the 20th of February next, will be heard the claim of Pepene Reweti,

means of classification, and a well considered
system of promotion, according to desert,
from class to class, a large majority of those
now inscribed on the catalogue of crime
might be restored to society as useful and
worthy members of our community.
The prison Library is in great want of
revision and restoration. A very great num-
ber of the books are completely worn out
and useless, and many of them, in our
opinion, ought never to have been included
in the list.
We have every reason to believe that the
prison rules are strictly observed by the
officers, and no endeavour is omitted to
ensure the same on the part of the prison-
ers, of whose behaviour in this respect we
are able to report very favourably.
We have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your Honor’s most obedient
Servants,
PONSONBY PEACOCKE,
JAS. NIVENSON,
Visiting Justices, and Inspectors
of Gaols.
To His Honor the
Superintendent, Auckland.
